Failure Is NOT the Mother Of All Success

Just last week, right after my session at HOT ON TWO, when I was featured with Ernie Chen at TV2 sharing on 3 Wealth Creation Strategies for Investors, the host of the program asked me a question. It was a frequently asked question (FAQ) which was given by most the participants of my seminars and workshops as well, “You look young. How old are you really?”

As usual, after answering, I’ll receive the same state-of-shock look on the face. These are the common remarks that most people will make:
“You gotta be pulling my leg!”
“You must be kidding me!”
“Come on, Tell me the truth!”

We Reap What We Sow

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. “The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. “I am going to give each one of you a SEED today – one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO.”

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.

Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing.

By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure.

What You Focus On EXPANDS!

This video is an interesting illustration of the point that I’m trying to make here..

WHATEVER FOCUS ON, EXPANDS!

Let me share a story to illustrate my point. When I was in college, I used to have few friends who were obsessed with video games. They would play any new games in town.. Dota, Fifa, Mapple Story.. Any games, you name it, they played it! In fact, every night after dinner, my friends will head for the nearest cyber cafe and play all night long. Now, do you think they will be good Dota players? In fact, they were very good at Dota that they were traveling around Malaysia to compete in Dota tournaments.

Father’s Day Special: Thanks Daddy!

It’s the time of the year again for me to remember how much my daddy has done for me over the year. In fact, it was not easy for my father to raise me as I was a highly rebellious kid who never enjoyed the lessons and theories taught in school. Why did I do so? Because I’ve seen my dad’s life as an accountant and as a businessman.

“When life knocks you down, you can choose to get back up”

I was lucky enough to take 2 hours off my time to catch the Karate Kid last week. Karate Kid is a story of a 12 year old Kid, Dre Parker or Little Dre (Jaden Smith) who had to leave for China because his mother’s latest career move has landed him in China. Despite hating everything in China, Dre had something to live for, his classmate Mei Ying. However, due to cultural differences, the friendship was made almost impossible. Worst still, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bullly, Cheng. Cheng is very good at kung fu and often bullied Dre. Dre soon found a master, Mr Han (Jackie Chan), his apartment’s maintenance man. Han soon teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and clam.

Big Rocks First

There was once a professor who brought out several rocks of different shapes and sizes and placed them in front his students. He placed them randomly into a jar. When no more rocks could fit, he held it up to his students and asked, “Is the jar full?” The students answered, “Yes it is!” The professor then said, “This jar represents your typical week. The rocks represent the various activities in your week.”

What he did next was fascinating. The professor emptied out the jar he had filled and began re-filling it with just the big rocks. He then put the medium sized rocks in and next reach out for the small ones which filled all remaining spaces between the big and medium sized rocks. Now do you think this jar can accommodate more rocks compared to the previous jar?

So, what is the truth of this illustration?

The Chinese’s Train in the Future

A brilliant new Chinese train innovation – get on & off the bullet train without the train stopping. VERY IMPRESSIVE CONCEPT!

No time is wasted. The bullet train is moving all the time. If there are 30 stations between Beijing and Guangzhou, just stopping and accelerating again at each station will waste both energy and time.

A mere 5 min stop per station (elderly passengers cannot be hurried) will result in a total loss of 5 min x 30 stations or 2.5 hours of train journey time!
